Why do some people cry when they chant Amitabha,
为什么有人念佛 誦經
sutras or when in the temple
或者进到寺院 会痛哭流涕呢？
These are related to our past life practice
这些都与我们前世修行有关系
It's like Ven Chin Kung said
像老法师說的
Once you heard in this lifetime , then chant it exclusively with one heart
你今生你听了就一心专念
Without any doubt about it
并且没有任何的怀疑
That means you had high level of practice in your past life
就说明 你前世修行功夫很高了
It's when we don't remember past lives
就是 我们虽然不记得前世的舊事了
But we can tell that in one of the previous lives
但今生的为人 前世或某一世
We must have practiced it.
我们一定都是修行过的
It's the problem of forgetfulness
只是累世累劫所有的记忆
all the memories in the past were stored up.
被封存了
It's stored up in our Alaya consciousness
存在了我们的阿賴耶識中
That's the eighth consciousness
也就是第八意识中 所以
Some people cry when they go to the temple to prostrate Buddha
有的人呢 去寺院拜佛会流泪
Some people listen to sutras and chant sutras
有的人听经 诵经
or they will shed tears when hold mantra
持咒也会流泪
Some people even cry when they hear the Buddhist music or lyrics
甚至有的人听佛歌都会流泪
I once shared a Buddhist song
我曾经也分享过一首佛歌
A lot of people cried
很多人看了流泪了
It means we were, in the past life
说明我们前生呢
They are all practitioners. A monk
也都是修行人. 还有的法师呢
Said he wept when he touched cassock
说他抚摸了袈裟也会流泪
Master Huang Nianzu once said
黄念祖老居士曾经说过
When he's writing the Commentary on the Infinite Life Sutra.
他在写《无量壽經注解》
Not only he cried out loud sometimes
的时候, 不但会痛哭流涕
But also his hair stood up on end many times
寒毛直竪的情形 都很多次发生了
This shows that in the previous life he was a great practitioner.
这就是前世都是大修行人
All these memories are triggered by Alaya
統統这些就是触动了阿來耶識的记忆
Maybe it's the karma from a past life
也许是前世的舊緣
Maybe it is the connections of the past lives
也许是累世的塵緣
Awakened in this lifetime
被我们今生呢唤醒了
Today I'm going to tell you a very amazing story
今天呢 给大家讲一个非常神奇的故事
Waiting for the Buddha for thousands of years
等佛等了千年
But he missed it
但最终也没有等到
Reincarnated and become a patriarch
转世再来成了一位祖师大德
This story is amazing and very interesting
這個故事很神奇 非常的有意思
I'm going to share with you today
我今天呢就讲给大家听
It is recorded in the <Mahamudra of the Ganges>
在《恒河大手印》中有记载
Master Xuanzang of the Tang Dynasty
唐朝的玄奘法师
On the journey to India for acquiring Buddhist canon
到印度取经
When he passing the Himalayas
走到喜马拉雅山一带
He saw the purple clouds in the deep mountain
发现山上有紫云结盖
He knew that there must be practitioner there
知道山里一定是有修道的人
So they went looking for it
于是大家就去寻找
Suddenly they found a cave
突然发现有一个洞
They went in and saw
就试着进去看 进去一看
There is an old monk in samaldhi
有一老僧在入定
Covered by overgrown weeds
头上 身上都长满了野草
Master Xuan Zang reached out his hand and touched him
玄奘大师就伸手摸了摸
His chest is still warm
他的胸口尚有余温
He used the Citing chimes to wake him up from the deep meditation
便用引磬使他出了定
The old monk opened his eyes and asked blankly
老僧睁开眼 茫茫然的问
Who are you
你是谁呀
Master Xuanzang said I am Xuanzang, a monk
玄奘大师说 小僧 玄奘
How long have you been here?
您老在此入定多久了 ？
The old monk squint his eyes and thought
老僧眯着眼睛想了想
It was during the reign of XYZ that he settled down here
是某某年间在此结庐入定
He was waiting for the Buddha to save him
是等釋伽佛来度他的
Master Xuan Zang calculated with his fingers
玄奘大师掐指一算
For more than a thousand years Sakhagava had gone
已有千年有余 便对他说 釋伽佛已经涅槃了
The old monk continued
老僧接著答
Then I would wait for Maitreya to come
那就等弥勒菩萨出世
I'll go preach with him again, Xuanzang said to him
我再跟他去弘法吧 玄奘法师想了想说
Maitreya is 5.6 billion years away
弥勒菩萨出世还需要五十六億七千萬年呢
I'm afraid you missed your chance again
恐你又错过了时机吧
You know what?
这样吧
You might as well go to reincarnate now
不如你现在转世投胎
Wait till I get back from India
等我从天竺取经回来
Let's preach dharma together to benefit beings
我们一起弘法利生
Do something good for people
造福於民又如何呢
The old monk nodded and said
老僧点了点头说
That's ok as well, so he followed Xuanzang's guidance
这样也好 当下便按照玄奘大师的指点
Went to the palace to be reincarnated as the prince
去皇宫投胎做皇太子去了
Waiting for the return of Master Xuanzang
等待玄奘大师的归来
Nineteen years later
十九年以后
Master Xuanzang returned from India
玄奘大师从天竺取经归来
He does not forget the previous appointment
他不忘前约
He went to the emperor to ask for the reincarnated prince
就到了皇帝那里去寻找转世的老僧
The emperor at that time was Tang Taizong
当时的皇帝是唐太宗
He was surprised and said to Xuanzang
他很惊讶 对玄奘法师说
I don't have a 19-year-old crown prince
我没有十九岁的皇太子呀 后来一查
The old monk was reborn in the wrong place
老僧投胎投错了地方
To the house of Yuchi Gong, the minister of the court
投到了当朝大臣尉遲恭的家中
So they went around and called the young man
于是就传詔下去 将那个青年宣来
Make him go with Master Xuanzang as a monk
令其随玄奘法师出家
Because of the reincarnation, the old monk was confused
因为老僧因投胎
Due to the memory loss due to rebirth
隔陰之谜
In his previous life, he was a great practitioner
前世虽然是大修行人
But couldn't remember the previous life any more
但是前世的事情哪里还记得呢
He is used to the life of being rich and powerful
他已经习惯了 紙醉金迷的生活
He doesn't want to be a monk no matter what
坚决不同意出家 不出家就赐死
Finally the emperor will let him die if he won't go
那青年没有办法了
So he agreed on one condition that
只好同意了 但提出了个条件
He needs to take three wagons with him, one with gold
必须随行三个马车 一车載金銀元寶
One with wine, the other with beautiful women
一车載酒 另外一车载着美女
total three wagons
这些东西拉了三大车
This is who became very famous Monk
这个 也就是后来非常有名的
With the nick name of Three Wagon Monk
称他为三车和尚
Master Xuanzang knew very well
玄奘大师心里非常有数
Nod and acquiesce
点头默许了 当时车队
To the temple where the ordination is performed
行至設壇剃度的寺院
A loud bell rang
一声洪亮的钟声传来
The old monk's Alaya memory awaken,
暮然惊醒的老僧 阿賴耶識中
After all, he practiced hard
沉睡的记忆 他毕竟刻苦修炼
The Buddha's mind remains intact
多生多世 佛心未泯啊
The spirit is like the morning bell and the evening drum triggered
晨鐘暮鼓的灵性一觸即发了
He woke in one sudden knock
他幡然醒悟
I don't want the three wagon stuff
三车都不要了
He immediately got off his horse and wept bitterly
当即翻身落马 痛哭流泪
Repent from then on, return to the Buddhist practice even harder
忏悔 从此潜心重归佛门 发奋修行
Become Master Xuanzang's great disciple
成为玄奘大师坐下的大弟子
He became a later generation of eminent monks
法号窺基 他就是后来的一代高僧
Master Kuījī became the second generation lineage holder of consciousness only school
窺基大师 成为法相宗第二代传人
We also know from this story
通过这个故事 我们也知道
Even the old monk practiced in advanced level
即使老僧修行功夫这么高
HE lived in the snow mountain for a thousand years in meditation
千年可以入定不死
But he's still in the six paths rebirth
但是呢 他还在六道轮回
He can go and reborn as a royal prince
他可以再投胎 转为皇太子
He can foretell his future life
他可以知道他的后来是怎样的
But if he doesn't vow to be transborn to the west bliss
只要他不发愿求生西方
He will never live in the West Paradise
他往生不了西方極樂世界
We don't have such good deep meditation
我们没有这么好的定功
We can't live for thousands of years
我们也不可能千年不死
But we can hold onto the name of Amituofo
但我们这一世把握住这一句佛號
Hold it and we can succeed in this life
把握住 我们就可以 今生就可以成就
Turn into an eternity body and life that never dies
变成一个无量壽的身体 从此不死了
You see what a great deal we have got
你说 我们多划算呢
So hopefully you will get it
所以希望大家呢
Don't miss the opportunity in this life
千万不要错过今生的大好时机
We chant Amitabha this lifetime.
我们今生念佛
The sound of the Amituofo is our self-nature
这聲聲佛號念的就是自性
Chant to reveal our pure mind
就是为了念出自己的清淨心
Remove all pollutions
把自心塵染的污垢都能去除掉
Clean up all attachments and vexations
把自心的执着 烦恼
Cut them all off at the root
都連根斷除
It will reflect our original mind
就会照出我们的初心
This original mind is our Buddha mind
这个初心 就是我们的佛心
Pass down in this life
今生传承下去
Continue to diligently practice
继续精進
Until you succeed in monasticism
直至修道成功
We've been through a lot for this day
我们修了累生累劫 就是盼望着这一天
We can become Buddha
能让我们
Chanting Buddha name becomes Buddha
念佛成佛
To the western paradise
往生西方極樂世界
I hope everyone can realize our dreams
我希望大家都可以圆我们的梦想
So those of us who can recite Buddha name in this life
所以我们今生 能念佛的人
They're all good people who are blessed
都是福德深厚的人
Those who can become Buddhas are the ones have good karma
也是我们今生成佛 因緣具足的人
I hope I'll see you all in the West
希望我们都能在西方極樂世界見
Go home together
一起回家
