今天呢 看了定弘法师
who helped a Lotus practitioner transbirth to Pureland
给一位莲友送往生的一个经历
The practitioner was previously in a vegetative state.
本来是植物人
After Ven. Dinghong and
经过定弘法师和
family's compassionate guard, and supportive chanting
家人的慈悲护持 助念
over four days' intensive
并且在这四天中加紧给她
intensive teaching and discourse on the knowledge of Pureland Buddhism
学习净土的知识 给她开示
Eventually, this vegetative state person regained consciousness
最后呢 这位植物人苏醒了
and was able to join in the chanting
并且可以跟着念佛了
to transbirth to the Western Pureland of ultimate bliss
往生西方极乐世界的这么一个殊胜故事
This extraordinary story offers
这个故事呢 我想大家看了以后啊
valuable insights and lessons for us.
一定会从中学到很多的知识
For those who have family members who are truly unconscious,
家人有真的昏迷不醒的
in a vegetative state, or suffering from dementia,
或者是植物人的、老年痴呆的
this video may provide some helpful guidance

会有一个帮助

定弘法师开示说
I have helped others with supportive chanting many times before.
我曾经就帮人助念过好多次
One of these instances occurred while I was studying abroad in the United States
这次是在美国留学的时候
It was my second time providing supportive chanting for someone.
好像是第二次帮人助念
The first time was for my grandmother
第一次是帮我姥姥助念
so I had some experience
那个时候就有一点经验了
The second time was after returning from studying abroad
第二次是在美国留学回来以后
when a lay practitioner approached us
正好遇到一位居士
to request supportive chanting for someone she knew
来请求我们去助念
We didn't know this lay practitioner
那个居士呢 我们并不认识
but she was asking on behalf of a relative
是帮她的一个亲戚来助念的
who had suffered a stroke
那个人呢 患了脑血栓
The woman was 60 years old, had just retired
六十岁一个妇女刚刚退休
and had recently purchased a new house that had just been renovated.
家里买了新房子 也刚刚装修完
They had also installed a new air conditioning unit at home
在家里呢 又新装了空调
and she slept with it on at night. The air from the unit was strong
风很猛 晚上吹着空调睡觉
The next day, she couldn't get up
第二天就起不来了
and was diagnosed with a stroke that left her in a vegetative state.
脑血栓成了植物人
She had a heartbeat and was breathing
有呼吸 、有心跳
but was unconscious.
但是没有知觉
She stayed in the hospital for over a week
在医院里呆了一个多星期
but the doctors said there was no hope for her
医生说没有救了
and advised the family to take her home and prepare for the worst.
劝家人赶快送回去 准备办后事吧
On the last night at the hospital
那天晚上是在医院最后的一个晚上
my mother and I went to see her
我跟我母亲就去了
She was in a private room
去了以后 她是单独一个病房
and we chanted the whole night in the hospital room.
我们就在医院里念了一整夜
The next day, we took the patient
第二天就送病人
back home and continued to chant for her
回到了家里 继续助念
We chanted continuously for four days and nights without rest
一直念了四天四夜都没有休息
and encouraged her family to join in as well
给她念佛 也带动她的家人助念
Although the family had a positive view of Buddhism
家里人对佛法都有好感
they had not truly studied it yet
但是还没有真正地学佛
and only worshipped Guanyin and other deities at home.
家里也拜观音什么的
During the four days
就在这四天里
my mother and I provided supportive chanting for her again
我跟母亲又给她助念
and taught her family about Buddhism.
又教导他们整个认识佛教
By the end of the four-day period
就在这四天四夜里
hey had completed the teachings
全部灌输完毕了
Their several children are all filial
他们那几个儿女都很孝顺
This woman had several children
这个妇女有好几个儿女
and her son, daughter-in-law, daughter, and son-in-law all came
儿子、儿媳、 女儿、女婿都来了
to help and take turns on supportive chanting.
都帮助张罗着 也帮助助念
They took turns
结果排上轮班
every two hours to help her chanting
两个小时一班给她助念
and continued for four days
一直助念到第四天
While we were chanting, we often gave her discourse
我们一边助念 还常常给她开示
even though she was breathing, she had no consciousness
她有呼吸 但就是没有知觉
When giving her injections, she did not even flinch
连扎针 她的脚都不会动一下
no feeling at all
一点知觉都没有
She was completely in a vegetative state.
整个就是个植物人了
We kept discoursing and chanting Amitabha
我们就一直开示一直念佛
persuading her to seek transbirth to the PureLand.
劝她求生净土
We also advised her family members, especially her daughter, to persuade her to let go.
也劝家里人来劝她 儿女劝她
Her mother, who was over 80 years old, was also there
病人的母亲还在 八十多岁的一位老太太
and she was very sad to see her daughter in this condition.
看着自己的女儿 伤心地不得了
She was struggling to let go
难过啊 放不下
but we kept persuading her
我们就一直在说服她
and eventually she came to an understanding.
最后她也想通了
She gathered courage and said to her daughter
鼓起勇气对着女儿说
"Daughter, if you let go of us now
女儿啊 你现在放下我们
you should seek transbirth to the PureLand." She urged her to follow.
你就求生净土吧 就劝她走
This patient could not let go of her family
因为这个病人啊 放不下家里
She was a kind person
这个病人是很善良的人
a virtuous wife and mother, and a good woman.
真是个贤妻良母 善女人
She completed her learning of the Pureland
她的整个净土的学习
while lying in bed for these four days.
就是躺在床上这四天完成得
At her deadbed, auspicious signs appeared
最后临终往生的时候 瑞相稀有
Everyone saw a purple light
众人看见紫色的光
and smelled a fragrance in the room
闻到了香味 整个屋子里的香味
She herself also saw it
她自己本人也看到
as if a beam of Buddha light had shone in from outside the window.
好像一阵佛光从窗外射进来了
Her daughter also saw the Buddha statue emitting light.
她自己的儿女也看到了佛像放光
Later, we kept chanting for her
后来给她一直念
until she was able to move on her own
念到她自己能动了
and her mouth followed along with our chanting.
嘴就跟着念了
It turned out that she was previously in a vegetative state
原来是个植物人呢 结果念到最后
but as we continued chanting, her mouth moved with us
她嘴就跟着我们一起念佛
While chanting Amitabha, she shed tears
一边念佛一边流眼泪
we knew this was a form of repentance
我们知道这是忏悔
or a reaction to seeing the Buddha's radiance.
或者是见到佛光的一种感动
We continued to urge her to let go of everything
我们也一直都在劝她要放下一切
and seek transbirth to the Pureland
求生净土
which was an extremely auspicious and exceptional experience
所以非常地殊胜
Of course, during these four days, there were also many strange phenomena
当然 这四天当中也有很多奇奇怪怪的现象
such as her grieving creditors came to collect debts
都是她的冤亲债主来讨债的
including her eldest son, who saw something like a giant snake moving under her bed.
包括她的大儿子 看见她的床下
There's something moving like a boa constrictor
有像大蟒蛇一样动来动去的东西
Late at night, around 3am
晚上半夜三更
they heard a loud noise outside as if an army was shouting.
屋外 听到千军万马的呼喊
They believed it was the sound of the grieving creditors
一想都是冤亲债主
The family quickly hung a picture of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva outside the door
家人赶快就把地藏菩萨挂在门外
and the noise stopped immediately.
马上就镇住了
We continued to chant the Amitabha's name
然后给她一直念佛
because we were sincere
因为当时也是很诚心
I made a vow
我当时也是发了愿的
to help her transbirth to Western Pureland
非得把她送到西方极乐世界
I won't stop until succeeding in achieving the goal.
不送上极乐世界 誓不罢休
We worked together with great cooperation and understanding
这样的发心 全体人也很合作 很默契
We succeeded in achieving the goal.
结果真的成就了
After her transborn, the atmosphere at home was like celebrating a wedding
往生以后家里像办喜事一样
Her elderly mother who was over 80 years old
她的老母亲80多岁了
was jumping around happily
蹦蹦跳跳 高兴得不得了
creating a peaceful and joyful environment
一片祥和的气氛
which did not feel like a funeral
不像是在办丧事的
This is the beauty of transbirthing onto the Pureland
这就是往生
Transborn to the Pureland is truly auspicious and exceptional
往生净土真的是吉祥的 非常地殊胜
So if we truly have the aspiration
所以自己真正发心
and follow the teachings properly to support our loved ones
然后 如理如法地去护持她
we can definitely achieve it.
一定可以成就的
Deeply believe in the great vow of Amitabha Buddha, which is inconceivable
深信阿弥陀佛伟大的誓愿不可思议
and that all sentient beings, even those in the hell realms
一切众生 乃至阎魔罗界
and the six paths or three evil paths
乃至六道 恶道众生
can transbirth to the Pureland by chanting the Amitabha's name.
念佛都能得生
We should not doubt this at all
一点都不要怀疑
Through this transborn to Pureland support story
通过这个送往生的故事
we learn a lot of experience
我们都会吸取很多的经验
our families can provide support by working together
就是家人齐心合力地护持
To guard and support in accordance with Buddhist principles
如理如法地护持
and establish strong faith/belief in every family member
并且自己的家人一定要信心百倍
Family members must first let go of all connections
家人首先要万缘放下
and truly let go of the patient
先要把这个病人真正的放下
to conduct supportive chanting with nothing in mind
你心无挂碍地去助念
and giving discourse to the patient
去开示 这个病人
The patient will be able to sense our sincerity
她是会感应到的
and the blessings of the Buddha and Bodhisattvas.
再加上佛菩萨的加持
With the power of Amitabha Buddha's forty-eight great vows
阿弥陀佛发的四十八大愿
any person who seek transbirth to the Pureland
所以每个人你只要求生西方一念转过来
will all be smoothly tranborn to the ultimate bliss.
都可以顺利的往生西方极乐世界
Even for someone with a serious illness or who is in a vegetative state
你看生多严重的病 包括这种植物人
as long as they have a pure and sincere last thought of Amitabha
最后一念的诚心 阿弥陀佛现前了
The sight of the Buddha light will wake her up
看到佛光也会把她唤醒的
Therefore, family members, who provide supportive chanting,
所以呢 这个就是身边的助念的家属
and good dharma companion's support, both play a crucial role
善知识 起到了非常重要的作用
Hopefully, we can all be our family memebers' good dharma companion
希望我们都能做家人的善知识
Follow these principles, guard and support our love ones
一定要如理如法的护持
and help our family members transbirth to Western Pureland of ultimate bliss.
家人往生西方极乐世界
As a practitioner, this is our duty
这就是我们修行人最应该做的
