The story about Heaven, about Hell, about Western Pureland of ultimate bliss
讲天堂 讲地狱 讲极乐世界
many people say that if these things really exist
很多人就说 如果这个东西存在
Is it possible for you to prove it and show it to me?
是否 可以证明给我看呢
If you do not have any evidence
如果你拿不出证据
If you have no proof of the existence of Heaven and Hell
无法证明有天堂和地狱的话
I will not believe it. Those people who think so
我就不相信 他觉着
They have their own reasons for their choice of disbelief
他这个不信是有道理的
In fact, what they said sounds reasonable
其实 他说的这句话听上去有道理
But indeed, their unbelief is unfounded as well
可实际上 这个不信也是没有根据的
If you have evidence
如果你能拿得出来证据
The evidence to prove that there is no existence of God, and the Buddha
证明没有上帝 没有佛
The evidence to prove that there is no Heaven and there is no Hell
没有天堂 没有地狱的话
If you have no proof of it, then your unbelief is also blind
你的不信也是盲目的
Today, I would like to share two stories with you
我今天就给你分享两个故事
To make you believe : Hell really exists
让你相信 地狱真的存在
The following is the story of Master Ren Huan
下面就给大家讲一个仁焕法师
RenHuan Master's personal and true history
亲身经历的故事
A story about a living human soul staying in Hell for ten months
就是活人的灵魂 已经在地狱里待了十个月了
You still don't believe in Hell?
你还不相信有地狱吗
Then let us share the story of Ren Huan Master as follows :
下面就给大家分享仁焕法师的故事：
Before I became a monk
我还没有出家前
I was not a very good filial son at home
我不是一个很孝顺的儿子
Although I have studied Buddhism, but I didn't believe in the law of cause and effect
虽然学佛了 但是不相信因果
I did not believe in the cycle of rebirth in the six paths
不相信六道轮回
I used to say
我以前曾经说
If you could just show me the Hell so I could take a look
如果给我到地狱里去看一看
Then I would believe in Hell
我就相信有地狱了
I have a very clear memory of it : It was December 1989
时间记得很清楚 那是一九八九年十二月
I had bronchitis
我得了一场气管炎的病
Because I was a doctor at the time
因为自己本身就是当医师的
I knew at the time that the limit was set at 800,000 unit/ml
那时候规定用到80万
This was the highest dosage of penicillin allowed
青霉素算是量高的了
But when I injected myself
但是我自己给自己打针
I injected penicillin up to 1.6 million units/ml
曾经用到160万
I had injections three times a day, but I did not get better
每天打三次针 结果病还是不好
I had not been able to fall asleep because of the disease
因为得病以后呢 晚上是不能睡觉的
I felt like I was dying when I lied down
躺下去，就感觉要断气了，没有办法
The only way I could try to sleep was in the lotus/meditation position
只有通过打坐的方式来睡觉
After I felt asleep, between sleep and wakefulness, It seemed as if a Master took me away
睡觉以后 迷迷糊糊的就好像有一位法师带着我走
I kept asking the Master : "Where are you taking me?
我老是问他 你要带我去哪里呀
His answer was simple : "you just have to follow me".
他就说 你跟着我走就行了
Then we came to a place
后来 到了一个地方
He meant this was where we're going
他就说 我们往这个地方去
Down there seemed like a good place to look, but in fact, this place is Hell
下面很好看 没想到那个就是地狱了
When we entered the underworld - Hell
当我们进到地狱以后
I saw a person who was still alive in the world at that time
我看见里面有一个还在世的活人
Because Hell is a very terrible, very scary place
因为地狱非常的恐怖 很可怕
So I stayed close to the Master and we went straight on
所以我跟那位法师就一直的往前走
I did not have the courage to look into the prisons that were all around me
不敢看左右的牢狱里面
But suddenly someone called my name
但是 突然有个人叫我的名字
I looked back, but it seemed like I didn't know that person either
我回过头看 好像也不认识他
Then I asked how was that you knew my name?
我就问 你怎么知道我的名字呀
He replied that he should have known me because we were from the same village
他说 我应该认识你的 我们是同乡的人
But how come I didn't recognize him if we were from the same village?
同在一个地方怎么会不知道呢
This is because when the soul falls into Hell
因为灵魂进到地狱以后呀
The whole face will be changed
面貌就全部改变了
It appeared as a hungry ghost image, I asked him who exactly he was
变成餓鬼的形象 我问他 到底你是谁呀
He said his name
他把名字讲出来
I was familiar with his name, he lived in the same village as I did
我知道他的名字 他跟我住同一个村庄
I said that I clearly remembered that you were with me in the clinic yesterday
我就说 你昨天明明跟我在诊所
"You have been talking to me"
还在跟我说话呀
"How come you are here?" I asked
你怎么来这里了呢
He answered : "I've been here for ten months".
他说 : "我已经来这里十个月了呢 ".
I said if it was ten months, you couldn't go back any more
我就讲 如果十个月那你就回不了了
He said that it was the reason why he wanted me to help him, and I answered :
他说希望你能帮我 我就对他讲
" What can I do for you?" I asked
那我怎么帮你呢
I told him that he should recite the holy name of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva !
你应该念地藏王菩萨的圣号啊
He said that he didn't have the strength to chant " Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva"
他说 我现在念不出来
"I have no strength to recite". He said. I asked him : But you are still talking to me?
没有力气念 我又说 你跟我说话
" As if You can talk" , I continued to ask -
你都能讲得出来
" Why you can talk to me but unable to recite the holy name of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva?"
干嘛念菩萨的名号 你就念不出来了呢
He kept saying the same thing: " Please, you have to help me"
他还是说那句话 ：希望你一定要帮助我
So I asked the Master who showed me the way
这样我就问带路的那位法师
I asked the Master what I should do
我就问 法师应该怎么做呢
The Master said that since you knew how to teach him to recite :
法师说 既然你都懂得教他念
The name of the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva
地藏王菩萨的名号
"You should chant the name of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva for him" so I followed his advice
你就念啊 结果我就念了地藏王菩萨名号以后
When I recited: "Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva," all the doors in Hell opened
地狱的门全部打开了
A lot of hungry ghosts were set free on this occasion
那些餓鬼出来了很多
Then I asked the Master
后来我又问那位法师
I asked that what was the point of all of them coming out?
我说 他出来有什么用啊
It could not help them to get out of suffering and to feel better, then the master said
他也不能离苦得乐嘛 法师又说
Then you should chant the holy name of "Amitabha" Buddha
那你就念阿弥陀佛嘛
Then I began chanting "Namo Amitabha"
当我念南无阿弥陀佛的时候
A lotus flower sprang up on the ground with one recitation of " Amitabha "
念一声 地面就涌出莲花一朵
When chanting " Amitabha" for the second time, another lotus sprung up
当我念第二声 又涌出第二朵莲花
Simultaneously, the first lotus
念到第二声时 前面的一朵莲花
It became larger and larger
就会变得越来越大
The Master gave a hint to all those hungry ghosts
那位法师就暗示那些餓鬼
To step up to stand on these lotuses. Then more I recited " Amitabha "
赶快站到莲花上去 当我越念的时候
More and more lotus flowers were coming out
莲花越来越多
And the previous lotus was getting bigger and bigger
前面的就越来越大
The "hungry ghosts" on the lotuses were very happy
那些餓鬼在莲花上非常的高兴
All the hungry ghosts who were on the lotuses were transborn in Western Pureland
那些餓鬼和莲花都往生极乐了
The Master told me that we should go back now
那位法师就说 我们应该回去了
When he said that we should go back
当他说 我们应该回去了
I woke up at the same time, and someone knocked at the door
我就醒过来了 这个时候就听到有人敲门
I opened the door, it was a person from the village
我一打开门 是我村上的人
I asked him if there was anything that made him knock on the door at midnight
我就问他 : 有什么事吗 半夜来敲门
He told me that XXX had just died
来人说 刚才某某某已经死了
It was this man that I had met in Hell
这个人就是我在地狱里见到的那个人
Because almost all the villagers here are Buddhists
因为我们村上的人啊 基本上都学佛
So he asked me for the supportive chanting for this man who had just passed away
所以叫我回去助念
It was the first time that I got to see Hell
这个 就是我第一次进地狱
To see a soul of a living person who has been in Hell for ten months
看见活人的灵魂在地狱里, 并且已经十个月了
Now, I will continue to tell you another story as follows :
下面呢再给大家讲一个
The story comes from a very famous watercolor painter in Singapore
新加坡的著名水彩画家
His name is Pan Zaixiong, he has been transported to urgent care
潘载雄重病入院急救的时候
In the hospital, his condition deteriorated
病情恶化
His heart stopped beating for up to ten minutes
心脏停止跳动长达十分钟
Fortunately, the doctors were able to restart his heartbeat and resuscitate him
经医生抢救 恢复心跳
When he woke up, He claimed to have been to another world dimension
苏醒过来的时候 他声称自己进入了另一个空间
He experienced many weird scenes
感受到许多奇异的景象
Indeed, the scenes he saw were Hell
这个景象就是地狱的景象
His experience also proved to us that Hell does exist
这个故事啊也让大家知道 地狱是存在的
Mr. Pan said that it was mid-July last year
潘先生说 他是在去年七月中
Fluid in the lungs has caused the heart failure
因肺积水引发心脏衰竭
Body condition was unstable after surgery
动手术后情况不稳定
He had to be kept in an intensive care unit, end of August
而在加护病房治疗 到了八月底
It was the 30th of 7th month in Lunar calendar
也就是农历七月三十
The last day of the Chinese "Ghost Festival"- the gate of Hell open for all the spirits
中元节的最后一天
Mr. Pan's condition was getting worse
他的情况恶化了
It was a moment that his heart stopped beating for a period of ten minutes
心脏一度停止跳动十分钟
Mr. Pan said : "I had a brain fog at the moment"
潘先生说 当时我的神識模糊
Sometimes there was an owl in sight
时而看到猫头鹰
The owl was staring at him at the window
站在窗口注视着我
At another moment, he saw that someone had been caught and chopped into pulp
时而看见有人被捉去 砍成肉酱
It was really horrible. He said that when he woke up from all of this
非常的可怕 他还说他苏醒过来以后
He drew down what he had seen, and his family noticed that
将自己所见画下来, 家人却发现与
His drawing was highly similar to the scenes described in the " Ksitigarbha Sutra"
《地藏菩萨本愿经》
The drawing resembled alot the description of the scenes of Hell
形容的地獄非常的相似
Even he himself was very much surprised
连他自己也感觉到非常的吃惊
Mr. Pan said that after his walk around in Hell
潘先生还说 他从地獄走了一圈回来以后呢
He became a Buddhist and his Dharma name is Pu Lin
他就已经皈依佛门了, 法号普林
Even the doctor was at a loss for an explanation
当时医生也是无法解释的
How was that possible after a long operation
为何他在挨过大手术之后
The heart stopped beating for up to ten minutes, but Mr. Pan was still able to be saved?
心脏停了十分钟还能被救活
After all this, the hospital allowed a Buddhist Master into the Intensive Care Unit
院方过后允许法师在加护病房内
The Buddhist Master converted Mr. Pan to Buddhism
替他皈依佛门了
The Buddhist master gave Mr. Pan a Dharma name as " Pu song " at the begining
法师取的法号叫普松
But not controlled by Mr. Pan himself
可是却无法控制自己
He simply could not take that name as " Pu song "
拒绝接受这个法号
He wrote down a Dharma name as "Pu Lin" on the paper
自己却在纸上写下 普林
Then the Master recited the sutra for his Dharma name " Pu lin "
当法师为他的普林法号诵经后
After all of that, Mr. Pan felt as if a great burden had been taken off his shoulder
他才如释重负般的
Suddenly his whole body relaxed
突然全身放松了
And he slept very well and peacefully
睡得非常的安稳
During the period that he was in the hospital, his eldest daughter and the son-in-law
长女及女婿在他住院期间
They were taking good care of him every moment of the day
寸步不离地照顾他
They recited the sutra for him a hundred times for the blessing of his well-being
还为他诵经百遍 祈求平安
The son-in-law of Mr. Pan said
潘先生的女婿说
When his father-in-law was in a coma, face full of pain
岳父昏迷时表情痛苦
The family recited the Sutra for him over and over again at his bedside in the hospital
家人在病床前不停的诵经
No one dared to imagine that Mr. Pan might still be able to wake up
没想到岳父能苏醒过来
After Mr. Pan awoke, he told everyone about the strange sights he had seen
却告诉大家 他所见到的奇异景象
From these two stories, we know that
所以通过这两个故事 我们知道
Hell is real, it does exist
地狱是真的存在的
You don't believe in Western Pureland of ultimate bliss
你不相信有极乐世界
You don't believe in Hell
你不相信有地狱
But if the day of your death should come
但是当你死的那一天
You suddenly realise that Hell really exists
突然发现真的有地狱
And There is also a real place called Western Pureland of ultimate bliss
真的有极乐世界的存在
When you enter Hell
你进入到地狱的时候
Will it not be too late to regret?
你是不是就后悔也晚了呢
Some people have the question :
那有很多人问
Whether we should chant the sacred name of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva
那到底是念地藏王菩萨
Or recite the sacred name of "Amitabha" Buddha?
《地藏经》呢 ？ 还是念阿弥陀佛的圣号呢
Are there any differences between them?
到底有什么区别呢
The "Ksitigarbha Sutra" tells us about the holy vow of the Ksitigarbha buddha
《地藏经》主要就是讲地藏菩萨的愿力
The "Ksitigarbha Sutra" also warns us that karma and incarnation are all real
和因果轮回真实不虚的
Why so many people love Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva?
为什么很多人喜欢地藏菩萨
Why people like reciting the "Ksitigarbha Sutra"?
喜欢读《地藏经》
It is because the vow made by Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is very powerful and blessing
就是觉得 地藏菩萨的愿力特别的殊胜
The famous sacred great vow of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is
地藏菩萨的大愿就是
"Until the Hells are empty (of suffering beings), I will not become a Buddha"
"地狱不空 誓不成佛"
"Once all sentient beings are saved, I will attain Buddhahood"
"众生度尽 方证菩提”
A lot of people are impressed and touched by the great vow of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva
很多人感动于地藏菩萨的宏伟大愿
It is very natural to have reverence for refuges and reliance on Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva
自然就会 崇敬皈命 依靠地藏菩萨
At the thought that in the event that we do fall into Hell
就想到 万一堕到地狱去了
We can all get saved by Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva
能得到地藏菩萨的救度
The holy vow of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is to save every being from suffering in Hell
地藏菩萨是发愿 度地狱里的众生的
As soon as you recite the holy name of the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva
我们只要一念地藏菩萨的圣号
The doors of Hell will be open to the suffering Hell dwellers
这个地狱之门就会打开了 让地狱的众生
All beings would be saved from hell, but once saved
逃离地狱 出来地狱以后
How can they be transborn in the Western Pure Land of the ultimate bliss?
怎样往生西方极乐世界呢
We must rely on the founder of Western Pureland of ultimate bliss -- " Amitabha "
那就要靠极乐世界的教主阿弥陀佛了
Then we must recite the holy name of " Amitabha "
那我们就必须要念阿弥陀佛
All the Hell beings can really be helped by chanting " Amitabha "
才可能让这些出来的众生
They can all step on the lotuses and be reborn in Western Pureland of ultimate bliss
踩着莲花往生极乐
We need to know that chanting ''Amitabha' is the most fundamental, essential practice
这才是最根本的 最究竟的
We must understand that
我们在这里就要了解到
The great virtues and merits of the recitation of "Amitabha"
念阿弥陀佛名号的功德
Reciting "Amitabha" is the most complete, the highest way to perfection
是最圆满 最究竟的
Mahayana Dharma speaks of everything being in one
大乘佛法讲 一即一切
You only need to recite one holy name "Amitabha"
只要念 南无阿弥陀佛 一句名号
The recitation of "Amitabha" includes
就等于念到
All the names of Bodhisattvas of three times, in the ten directions
十方三世一切诸菩萨的名号了
All Bodhisattvas also do "Amitabha" chanting
所有的菩萨都是念 阿弥陀佛
For transbirth in the Western PureLand of Ultimate Bliss
往生西方极乐世界的
Whether it is Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva
无论是地藏菩萨也好
Or it is Guanshiyin Bodhisattva, or Samantabhadra Bodhisattva
覌世音菩萨 普贤菩萨
Or the Great Strength Bodhisattva
大势至菩萨
All Bodhisattvas recite "Amitabha" for transbirth in the Western Pure Land
所有的菩萨都是念佛往生的
All of the Bodhisattvas who dwell in the Western Pure Land
也都在西方极乐世界
All the Bodhisattvas study the Dharma and recite "Amitabha" together
跟着阿弥陀佛 学法念佛呢
We need to be very clear about this fact
这个大家要明理
The reason why we talk about it over and over and remind you of it all the time
为什么一直在讲 一定要
It is because of the importance of a deep focus on a single practice all the time
一门深入 长期熏修
As long as you have a good command of the recitation of " Amitabha "
只要这一句佛号你念好了
Your transbirth in the Western Pureland of ultimate bliss will be a certainty
往生就有把握了
Don't get distracted by other practices, never multi-task
千万不要杂行 杂修
Please bear in mind that all the Bodhisattvas are included in the recitation of "Amitabha"
所以我们以一句名号 统摄一切名号
You must be single-minded, concentrated, with faith in the recitation of the " Amitabha"
这样的心 就是能专一
Get good results with good focus
专一就能得到效果
There were many fellow pratitioners asked me that
很多莲友呢 经常也会问
I have already been chanting the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva
我念了地藏菩萨的圣号
And the Guanshiyin Bodhisattva for a moment
观世音菩萨的聖号
I feel so sorry to have to give them up, what should I do?
我舍不得放弃怎么办
There is no problem, you can continue with your practice as usual, but
没有问题 继续念 但是呢
You must include the " Amitabha" in your daily recitation of the Holy Name
要把这个阿弥陀佛的圣号加进去
Our respected Elder Master used to say that if you recite 3000 times -
老法师曾经说过 你念三千声的
The sacred name of Guanshiyin Bodhisattva
观世音菩萨的聖号
Then you're going to recite 5,000 times of " Amitabha "
你就要念五千声的阿弥陀佛的圣号
The proportion of the recitation of the " Amitabha" must be the greatest of all
比例要大过其它的圣号
All in all, if you really want to be transborn in Western Pureland of ultimate bliss
毕竟想往生西方极乐世界
Have in mind that the holy founder of Western Pureland is - "Amitabha" Buddha
教主就是阿弥陀佛嘛
So it is so important to keep reciting the" Amitabha " every minute
那我们必须还是要念阿弥陀佛
It is a short cut and the most direct way
这个是捷径 最直接的道路
If you don't do it, it's really like : Looking far and neglecting what's close
我们为什么要舍近求远呢
I really hope that we all recite only one holy name - "Amitabha"
希望大家呢 还是这一句佛号就可以了
It's simple and extraordinary
既简单又殊胜
The sacred name of "Amitabha" including all the sutras, all the mantras
包括一切的经 一切的咒
Every phenomenon, every environment is created by our mind
一切法由心造
We always have "Amitabha" in our hearts
我们心里想着有阿弥陀佛
Always remember the Western PureLand, sooner or later we are all going to become Buddha
有极乐世界 我们终究就会成佛
All of us will be transborn in Western Pureland of ultimate bliss
就会去到 极乐世界
